Tips for Success

Try out many groups:

Remember, job networking groups can differ quite a bit. Some groups are very small, perhaps 3 to 5 attendees, and give very personalized attention to your needs. Other groups are very large, perhaps over 100 attendees, and may provide a wide variety of services like writing a resume and interview techniques and preparation. Some groups provide career advice and give access to alumni contact groups. You may decide to utilize several types of groups while you are conducting your job search. It is best to attend a variety of groups until you choose the ones on which you will focus. It is also wise to attend a particular group several times before deciding if it will meet your career change needs.

Assemble a "Team":

Don't be afraid to walk up to people and introduce yourself. Ask them questions about what type of job they are trying to find and fill them in on your job change needs. Help them anyway you can to find a job. If you help them in their time of need, they will remember you and will probably help you anyway they can. Make notes and keep track of who you meet and what they need. Contact them often with leads or other help. This "Buddy System" can become one of your most powerful networking tools, especially if you make it a regular part of your routine through the years.

OK, you are now a networking expert. Go have fun with it. Today you might just find your next new job and meet a room full of new best friends!
